Central High School Named AP STEM and AP STEM Achievement School For the 5th Consecutive Year

Central High School has been named to the Georgia Department of Education AP STEM and AP STEM Achievement list by the College Board.
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are college-level courses offered by trained high school teachers in the regular high school setting. Central High School offers students AP courses in english, math, science, and social studies.
Principal Mr. Jared Griffis said, “Earning Advanced Placement distinctions are tremendous accomplishments. I believe achieving this high level of recognition in consecutive years speaks to the culture we work to continually sustain at Central High School. Diligently striving to always provide premier opportunities and instruction for our students has allowed our AP students to compete with the state and the nation's best. I could not be prouder of our AP students and AP teachers who made these honors possible. It is a great time to be a Central Lion.”
There are currently 325 students taking one or more of the nine AP courses offered in a face-to-face classroom setting. Additionally, all AP courses options are available online. Of the students who participated in the AP science and math tests last year, 46% scored a 3 or higher. 50% of all AP exams taken at Central last year received a score of 3 or higher.
The Department of Education announced 200 schools across the state were awarded the AP STEM honor, and only 128 schools received the AP STEM Achievement honor. Mr. Griffis stated, “I am especially proud of the AP STEM Achievement School designation. Central High School teachers and students exemplify premier teaching and learning. It is our intention to continue offering stellar programs to our well deserving students.”
AP STEM Schools are schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses, such as AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics, or AP Computer Science.
AP STEM Achievement Schools are schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses, at least 40% of the exam scores on the AP Math and AP Science exams earning scores of 3 or higher.
