WES Students Attend Atlanta Science Festival
Mar 31 2017
Students at Whitesburg Elementary School attended the Atlanta Science Festival Saturday, March 25th, 2017. The festival is Atlanta’s biggest interactive science event of the year. Thanks to Whitesburg Elementary’s STEM partners, Dendreon, a pharmaceutical company located in Fulton County that manufactures an immunotherapy drug to fight cancer, the students were able to attend the field trip to Centennial Olympic Park free of charge through a voucher. Whitesburg Elementary was the only school in Carroll County and outside of the I-285 loop to receive the voucher that allowed students to experience this premier event.
The Atlanta Science Festival hosted over 100 expos presented by colleges and industry leaders in the STEM field including Google, Georgia Power, and the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Students at Whitesburg Elementary were able to take part in hands-on experiments involving magnetic fields, biology, high- end technology, and much more. Georgia Tech and Emory put on presentations by graduate students giving participants the opportunity to see the future of environmental science, chemistry, computer science, and neuroscience. The students of Whitesburg Elementary had an amazing experience participating in all of the interactive science expos. The students were able to participate in take home science experiments, touch a real brain, and much more. The Atlanta Science Festival is one of the many events Whitesburg Elementary has participated in this school year to provide students with authentic STEM experiences. Thanks to the continued support from STEM partners, Whitesburg looks to continue attending the Atlanta Science Festival and other STEM focused learning experiences in the future to bring students a premier learning environment.
