Carroll County School System Wins Two GACA State Championships in Weightlifting
Mar 14 2021
On Saturday, March 13, two Carroll County high schools won state titles in weightlifting. Bowdon High School won the Class A State Championship for the first time in school history, and Villa Rica High School won the Class 5A State Championship.
Rich Fendley, Head Coach for Bowdon High School stated, “I am really proud of our students and coaches for winning Bowdon’s first weightlifting state championship. We had a state runner-up or state champion in 9 out of 10 weight classes, which says a lot about our culture and demonstrates the strength of our team from bottom to top.”
Tim Barron, Head Coach from Villa Rica High School also shared his comments, “The level of competition in the West Georgia Area has led all of us to stronger programs. I have seen tremendous growth in our strength training over the past few months. But, greater than winning the State Championship was how our kids represented our school and our community. Winning is simply a bi-product of doing things right. We are committed to doing things right at VRHS, and I am excited about what we are building!”
Congratulations to the BHS and VRHS student athletes and coaches!
