Mount Zion High School Student Named ESOL Exemplary Learner

Mar 29 2021

Carroll County School System is proud to announce that Cristian Martinez, a Senior at Mt. Zion High School, was recently named Carroll County’s ESOL Exemplary Learner. Martinez was selected based on qualifications set forth by the Georgia Department of Education (GADOE) which includes: student achievement, extracurricular involvement, attendance, and conduct. Each year, the GADOE seeks to identify and recognize Georgia’s English Learners for their “Excellence in Achievement.”

Martinez started Mt. Zion High School as a Freshman knowing little English, but was very eager and motivated to learn. Since that time, he has joined the choir and the soccer team. He is also a member of the Beta Club, and the Honor Society. In addition to his academics and extracurricular involvement, he also works at the 12 for Life program. After graduation, Martinez plans to attend West Georgia Technical College and pursue a degree in business.

“It has been an honor to watch Cristian grow academically and in extracurricular activities. He is truly deserving of this honor, and we are excited to see what great things he will continue to do after graduation,” stated Landon Odom, Principal of Mt. Zion High School.

Martinez will advance to state competition as one of three representatives from our region who will compete to be selected as the ESOL STAR Exemplary Learner for the State of Georgia.
