Roopville Elementary School (RES) held an open house event on October 23 to demonstrate their latest efforts in innovative learning practices, the Solarize a Classroom (SAC) Project.
RES was selected to pilot the project due to its advancement in STEM education. Plans to implement this one-of-a-kind curriculum started one year ago when the joint partnership with Southwire and the Georgia Youth Science & Technology Center (WGYSTC) funded the $15,000 grant to begin phase I. Students at Roopville Elementary School began learning about the photovoltaic concept in August with the help of Dr. Gail Marshall and Dr. Judy Cox, retired professors from the University of West Georgia. The SAC trailer will be available for check out through WGYSTC during the fall of 2020 after attending professional learning directed by Jennifer Carroll of Roopville Elementary and Cathy Fontenot of WGYSTC.
