Temple High School Media Specialist Named West Georgia Library Media Specialist of the Year

May 06 2019

Temple High School Media Specialist, Sabrina Thompson, has been named the 2019 West Georgia Library Media Specialist of the Year. Representing the West Georgia District, her media program will be featured at the Georgia Education Technology Conference (GaETC) in November. The state winner will be announced at the Summer Institute in June.

Georgia Library Media Association (GLMA) and the Georgia Association of Instructional Technology (GAIT) co-sponsor the Georgia School Library Media Specialist of the Year (LMSOTY) award to recognize K-12 library media specialists with dynamic, innovative programs and whose instructional collaborations foster student engagement and achievement. Additionally, LMSOTY finalists are leaders within their school buildings and in the greater community of library media specialists.

Mrs. Thompson was chosen as the Georgia Library Media Association nominee for the Carroll County Media Specialist of the Year at her CAMS group in March. She is a Google Certified Trainer and provides professional learning in virtual formats along with face-to-face presentations for her staff. Mrs. Thompson leads professional development opportunities at West Georgia RESA and Carroll County District Professional Learning sessions. She is a member of the E3 Innovators Professional Learning Team for Carroll County through the TLC.

Mrs. Thompson earned her Specialist Degree in Media and Instructional Technology from the University of West Georgia. Additionally, she recently completed the Grow with Google IT Support Certification to build knowledge about technology that will help in her role as media specialist. She demonstrates a passion for learning and helping others with their professional development, careers, goals, and learning.

The Temple High School Media Center’s mission is to ensure students are critical thinkers, researchers, and good digital citizens. The media center is considered a 24-hour access library. Audiobooks and eBooks are available with instant access and on the school website. QR codes are on some of the books to ensure any student who wants to read a title can read it at any time (even if the book is checked out by another student). Teachers and students also have access to online textbooks and teacher resources.

Carroll County School System congratulates Mrs. Sabrina Thompson and appreciates her dedication to offering premier opportunities to THS students!
