The Mount Zion High School Wind Ensemble Debuts Wildheart by Katahj Copley

Dec 11 2020

On Friday December 11th, Mount Zion High School (MZHS) held their annual Fine Arts Night at the Carroll County Schools Performing Arts Center. At the end of the concert, the MZHS Wind Ensemble, directed by Mr. Scott Jones, debuted the world premiere of Wildheart, by Katahj Copley.

Copley is a local product of Carrollton and is currently studying music composition at the University of West Georgia. This is not the first time the MZHS Wind Ensemble has premiered one of his works. They previously have debuted other works entitled "Hurry" and "Colors in the Sky". Mr. Jones had a glowing review for the young composer and shared, "Mr. Copley is doing something special in the compositional world right now and is breaking through on a national stage, writing for state level organizations and collegiate groups around the country. We are honored that he allows us to play his music! Premiering a piece is a daunting task, but in keeping with our mission to offer premier experiences for our students, this took little convincing. When I approached our kids about premiering another piece in the midst of what this fall semester, they never hesitated. COVID-19 has made things different for us, but we could not be happier to have debuted a new piece of music to the world!"
