Central High School’s Wrestling Team demonstrated what it means to be premier by bringing home a AAAA State Championship and a AAAA State Runner-up title on Saturday, February 15, 2020.
Aaron Sheffield became the second State Champion in CHS history in the 152-pound weight class with a 9-7 victory. CJ Shadinger, a senior at CHS, finished the tournament as the State Runner-up. Shadinger also earned the most wins of any Central wrestler in the history of the CHS wrestling program with 187 wins.
CHS won the region in both duals and traditional and were only 3 points shy of placing as a team at the state dual tournament.
“This has been a great season for CHS wrestling,” stated Jeremiah Fountain, CHS Head Wrestling Coach. “I am so proud of our athletes and the grit with which they compete. The future is very bright for these two young men and for the CHS wrestling team.”
