Villa Rica High School Decathlon Team Earns Invitation to Compete at National Level for the Fourth Consecutive Year

Villa Rica High School recently competed in the 35th annual Georgia Academic Decathlon State Competition and received an invitation to compete at the national level for the fourth consecutive year. Villa Rica finished 4th out of all teams in the state and 3rd in the large school division. Additionally, students won individual awards in the following categories:
Ruth Miles competed in the Honors Category and won medals in the following events:
-Gold Literature
-Bronze Music
-Gold Speech
-Silver Interview
Reagan Clay competed in the Honors Category and won medals in the following events:
-Silver Literature
-Gold Music
-Gold Science
-Gold Art
-Gold Social Science
-Gold Overall in the State
The Academic Decathlon is a national academic competition in which students of any academic prowess compete against one another in 10 academic events, these events being: Literature, Music, Science, Art, Mathematics, Economics, Social Science, Speech, Interview, and Essay. Students are divided into 3 Academic Categories based on academic GPA: Honors (3.8 or higher), Scholastic (3.799-3.2), Varsity (3.199-0).
Villa Rica’s Decathlon Team is coached by Mr. Russell Bennett and has fielded a team for 22 years at the state level. VRHS has also competed nationally for 6 out the past 7 years. VRHS will represent Carroll County and the state of Georgia at the National Academic Decathlon Competition April 29th through May 1st.
