Villa Rica High School Sophomore Wins Georgia Congressional Art Competition
May 17 2021
Emma Guthrie, tenth grade student at Villa Rica High School, won first place in the 2021 Georgia 3rd Congressional District Art Competition. Her painting "Southern Style" will hang in the U. S. Capitol for a year and will replace VRHS Senior Emmanuel Ramos' drawing, "Legacy". Emma worked very hard on the concept for this painting, and created her own photograph to use as reference before tackling the difficult lighting in acrylic paint.
Emma has quickly established herself as a standout student at VRHS, especially in the art classroom. She has received recognition for her artwork beginning her freshman year and was accepted into the Governor's Honors Program for this summer, based on her strong portfolio and character. Emma has also emerged as a leader on the tennis team, National Honor Society, and takes all honors and AP classes.
