Kevin Atlas speaks to Carroll Co. students

Kevin Atlas, an internationally recognized motivational speaker and former professional basketball player, shared his incredible life story of facing challenges and turning them into triumphs with seniors from all five Carroll County Schools high schools August 16 at the Carroll County Schools Performing Arts Center.

Atlas, who was born with a left arm that ends just below the elbow, dedicated himself to school and basketball after a middle school coach showed that he believed in him. Atlas eventually became the first-ever player with only one hand to earn a Division I basketball scholarship. His story was chronicled in an Oscar-qualifying documentary titled, "Long Shot."

Seniors from Bowdon, Central, Mount Zion, Temple and Villa Rica joined together for a morning of encouragement and challenge from system leaders and Atlas. After the assembly, Atlas met with a smaller group of student leaders from each high school for a more in-depth session on leadership and overcoming adversity.

Atlas encouraged seniors to take time during their final year in high school to make a last impact on their school.
