bee structure at CES

Central Elementary School cut the ribbon on its new apiary April 12, using bee hives to enhance student understanding of the local environment and the importance of pollinators to the ecosystem. CES QUEST facilitator Holly Challen spearheaded the project, and Jared Hopson led the effort from parent volunteers and community partners who supported and assisted with the construction process. The apiary structure has a safe viewing area for students to observe hive activity through windows without being directly in contact with the bees. Phase two of the project will include an outdoor classroom and garden area.
