Congratulations to Bay Springs Middle School Spanish Teacher Kaleb Hyatt for being named the 2025 Foreign Language Association of Georgia Teacher of Promise! The FLAG Teacher of Promise Award recognizes teachers in their first, second or third year of teaching who show the promise to be an outstanding teacher and leader in World Language education.
Hyatt -- a Bowdon High School and University of West Georgia alumnus -- is a second year teacher who believes that teaching Spanish is an opportunity to help students engage meaningfully with the lived experiences of Spanish speakers and appreciate the diversity of the Spanish-speaking world. In his classroom, Hyatt embraces a proficiency-based approach through methods including Comprehensible Input and Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS). His goal is to create a dynamic, student-centered environment that feels distinct from other classes. Mr. Hyatt integrates cultural content such as stories, traditions, music, and celebrations that showcase the rich diversity of the Spanish-speaking world.
Mr. Hyatt actively contributes to the world languages community by presenting at Southeast Coastal Conference on Languages & Literatures (SECCLL), and World Languages Collaborative (WLC) Virtual. In 2025, Mr. Hyatt will be presenting at Foreign Language Association of Georgia (FLAG), Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT), and American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).
