Four Seniors named ISDS Stars

Four graduating seniors from Carroll County Schools were recognized among only 56 seniors in the state of Georgia to be named 2025 International Skills Diploma Seal (ISDS) Star Students by the Georgia Department of Education.

Julie Morales-Cabrera from Bowdon High School, Ashley George from Central High School, Riley Mooney from Temple High School and Emalee McLendon from Villa Rica High School were honored April 29 at the state's annual ISDS ceremony by State Superintendent Richard Woods and Dr. Mark Linsky, Program Specialist for World Languages and Global Initiatives.

Additionally, Morales-Cabrera was awarded the Georgia Seal of Biliteracy. Students may earn this seal by achieving outstanding grades in their English classes as well as scoring a 4 or a 5 on the AP Spanish Language exam. More students may be recognized with this seal after this year's AP exam scores are released.

The Georgia International Skills Diploma Seal is awarded to graduating high school students who have excelled in their studies of world languages and cultures and an international education curriculum, preparing them for personal and professional success in an increasingly global society. Students also engage in extracurricular activities and service experiences that foster the achievement of global competence. This recognition is noted on a student's diploma and transcript. It is a signal to employers and higher education institutions that a student is prepared to participate in the global economy.

In total, 47 Carroll County students earned International Skills Diploma Seals this year:
Bowdon High School awarded 17
Central High School awarded 5
Temple High School awarded 10
Villa Rica High School awarded 15
