Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes visited 12 for Life February 12 to explore the innovative public-private partnership that has become a model for similar programs across the southeast. 12 for Life allows high school students the opportunity to work part-time in a Southwire manufacturing facility while completing their high school coursework and earning credits in work based learning and academic subjects. Commissioner Holmes is touring the state to support workforce development and support innovative partnerships.
Central High School senior and 12 for Life team member Christian Long led a facility tour for a group which included Holmes, Carroll County Schools Associate Superintendent Dr. Jessica Ainsworth, 12 for Life Principal Joel Grubbs, 12 for Life Southwire Operations Manager Cameron Searcy, Carroll County Chamber of Commerce President Rhyne Owenby, retired Chamber President Daniel Jackson and SMI Director of Government Affairs Wesley Stone. After touring the manufacturing floor, the group visited Career Development Facilitator Denise Fowler in the classroom where she teaches life and professional skills that increase the employability of students.
