Carroll County Schools Exemplary English Learner Paola Nunez Rosendo was chosen to represent the entire West Georgia RESA region at the Georgia Department of Education’s Federal Programs Recognitions in Atlanta April 30.

During her time at Central High School, Paola has earned a weighted GPA of 4.0 and has challenged herself by taking advanced placement classes, which will earn her 9 college credits by the time she graduates later this month. Paola is also greatly involved in school clubs and her community. She is the founder and president of the first Model United Nations team at Central, she’s the treasurer of the school’s student council, vice president of the environmental club and the interact club, and she’s the event planner for the school’s Sources of Strength, which is a nonprofit organization that raises mental health awareness. Additionally, Paola was part of a partnership with the Salvation Army for Christmas. While she juggles all of these responsibilities, she’s also made time for her track, field, and cross country teams because running is her true passion. She has been the top varsity track runner two years in a row, and wants to continue her passion running in college and studying sports psychology.

Teachers noticed that she’s an exceptional listener and willing to help anyone who is struggling. This year, she was offered a volunteering leadership opportunity to co-teach, or tutor, with Ms. Fairbanks and Mrs. Jaye, her 10th grade Algebra 1 teacher. As an international student, Paola recognized that she quickly had to learn how the American school system works. She learned and took advantage of every opportunity possible. In the future, Paola hopes to help other students who are new to the country and may struggle with the same issues, so that they can also be successful.
