carroll county schools facilities update may 2026

A Message from Superintendent Scott K. Cowart

At the close of the school year, I am excited to update you on some of the many facility improvements we are working on for next school year and beyond.

Thanks to the support of Carroll County voters and taxpayers, our SPLOST for education continues to support facility improvements and additions that directly impact the quality of academics, arts, athletics and activities that our students enjoy. The Carroll County Board of Education has created a 10-year facility master plan for each school campus which you can view or download from our website. I encourage you to explore these master plans to get more information about our overall preparation to expand and enhance each school over the next decade.

Opening August 2026 (SPLOST VI)

Mount Zion Middle School
For the 2026-2027 school year, Mount Zion Middle School will be opening a six-classroom addition to house a new STEM Innovation Lab and sixth grade classrooms. The school will also enjoy a renovated and expanded cafeteria and kitchen and additional parking. Finally, we are pleased to be able to add the SHIELD Lockdown System to Mount Zion Middle School. GHES addition renderings and site plan

Glanton-Hindsman Elementary School
A major reconstruction project for Glanton-Hindsman Elementary School begins this summer and is scheduled to open in August of 2027. An older classroom wing at GHES, which now houses third grade, will be razed to make way for a 16-classroom, two story addition. The school will also enjoy new redesigned and expanded student drop-off and pickup lanes for car riders in addition to parking lot expansion and interior renovations. Additionally, the Pre-K and Kindergarten area will be renovated to create a new Early Learning Academy. This is a major project to modernize one of our oldest campuses as we accommodate growth in the northeastern portion of Carroll County.

THS addition renderings and site plan

Temple High School
A major project for Temple High School begins this summer and is scheduled to open in August of 2027. An older wing of eight classrooms that currently houses English/Language Arts classes will be razed and replaced with a two-story twelve classroom wing that includes a new band and chorus suite. This will be a major enhancement to fine arts facilities at THS. Foreign language, social studies, and business classes also will be housed in the new wing. The school will enjoy expanded and renovated cafeteria and kitchen, renovated home side football concession stand, and a covered athletic practice facility.

Beginning Summer 2026 (SPLOST VII)

rendering of a covered athletic practice field

This summer we will begin construction of five covered athletic practice facilities -- one at each of our five high schools. These covered practice fields will enable sports teams to have outside practice areas that are sheltered from sun and rain, helping to keep our student athletes safe and healthy. The structures will include fans, goalposts and artificial turf. The rendering that you see is an example of what one of these facilities will look like. Each high school's covered practice area may be slightly different depending on local site conditions.

Beginning during 2027 (SPLOST VII)

The next round of facility projects will begin during 2027 and will include construction at Whitesburg Elementary School, Providence Elementary School, Villa Rica High School and Temple Elementary School. We will be sharing more details about the scope of each of these projects in the future. Preliminary information is included in our Facility Master Plans
