Legendary sports broadcaster Steve Holman, "The Voice of the Atlanta Hawks," visited Villa Rica High School this week to speak to students in sports journalism and yearbook classes along with audio/visual/film and technology students from CCA North. Holman has been providing play-by-play for the Hawks on radio since 1989 and has never missed a regular-season or playoff broadcast -- a streak well over 3,000 games to date.
Holman shared career highlights and memories with the students, focusing on the importance of human connections for life and career success. He opened the floor for questions and spent much of the time answering students and adults on such far-ranging topics as his all-time greatest starting five for the Hawks and his memories from the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Around 40 students participated with many asking questions and staying afterward to get a photo with Holman.
Holman is a member of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame, Georgia Radio Hall of Fame and the Georgia Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Thanks to VRHS Assistant Principal Matt Rountree for securing the visit from Holman.
